As many Australians today and over the week-end witnessed the tragedy of one of Australia's greatest natural disasters. The Fires that have ravaged Victoria are horrendous and the death toll staggering and still rising. These people have not only lost loved ones but they have lost everything, there homes, memories and lives of loved ones. My sister 10 years ago lost her home to a house fire and i'll never forget her desperation as she asked me to brings clothes for her and the children, to realize at the point she didn't even have the basics is such a reminder to what these families are about to go through and it breaks my heart. I asked my husband what could we do to help and we came up with an idea, Our home-wares/fashion store is having a huge clearance sale, today we are packing it all up and donating it all to the families in need. So to all my lily-g customers who read my blog our sale has officially ended today in help of others.

That's a very caring and thoughtful way to help those who are desparately in need. It's quite distressing isn't it to think of all those people enduring such loss and suffering.
That is a wonderful thing for you to do. As of 7.00am this morning there were 108 people who had lost their lives to this tragic event.

We have been following the news, it's terrible. Greece has been badly hit by forest fires. A couple of years ago even Olympia nearly burned...So sorry for the people who lost their lives! For the rest, God and His angel helpers like you, will provide. God bless you all.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, only problem is that I have rung every organization possible from the Red Cross to the salivation army, they just Don't want goods but money.I haven't given up and I plan on putting a notice in there local paper, if anyone knows of any families that I could email please let me know I really want to help. my hubby is prepared to hire a truck and drive to Melbourne with goods we have collected but I do understand they just don't know what to do with it all at this stage as most are homeless, any suggestions?
Perhaps auction off the pieces, with proceeds going to the victims?

I remember when we lost everything in our house fire the things I remember the most were the people who wanted to help us and give us things as it was all they could do and that's when you see the beauty in humanity! You are wonderful. What a beautiful kind gesture. I think the auction idea is good. Only a thought but it might also pay to wait for a little while as I have some colleagues in some of the areas and from what I can understand things are only going to get more chaotic and emotionally upsetting. Maybe you could choose a / some country towns to donate them to and when things have settled contact some of the community groups - ie: The Country Women's Association (VIC), Rotary or Girl Guides & Scouts etc as they might be able to assist with distribution. I know a lot of country folk who are to proud to ask for help - but need it.
