French Market basket

If only I lived in France..... I would only have to visit the dreaded shopping centre once a month for cleaning supplies. I would no longer have to fight for a car park and try as I do to steer that trolley that end's up being like a gym workout. Why are the trolley's designed to move sideways?
Every shopper always seems to look miserable, fighting with the kids who seem to want every preservative, coloured food item that is perfectly placed in there view, or is it when you realize that your trolley is full, yet you still have nothing for dinner?
At the check out you then realize you left your recycle green bags at home and now the guilt really sets in as your kids preach environmental issues as once again I use plastic bags. Did the food chains not realize that we would prefer neutral coloured bags perhaps linen, just kidding!!!

On the other hand if I lived in France I could have the pleasure of shopping in the fresh air, soaking up the atmosphere that I so love, picking up fresh flowers, buying real bread from the Baker and perhaps a treat for the kids from the local patisserie. I would then use my market basket and feel quiet stylish, just like the french have always done.

We now have a local market once a month in my area. The gourmet delights and fresh produce fill our park overlooking the bay, we meet up with friends, laugh have fun, try before we buy and fill our french baskets to the rim. Now that is what I call grocery shopping, shame its not every week!

Our French Market baskets are now available for children too, how cute are they?

You mean to say that I haven't been living the dream under the flourescent lighting at Coles? Hmm, I suspected as much. Sometimes I take my french market basket anyway, get one of the kids to push the trolley and just pretend.....

I would be lost without my basket, it is an essential in France! I am always amazed at what I can fit in mine and adore it on market day when it is full to the top with lots of french goodies complete with baguette poking out and some plants for my terrace.

Here Stateside the new thing is reusable bags that most stores sell. I laught at this having had people everywhere stare at me for using my basket for forever. Now I get oohs & aahs & when I tell them its old, French & still in perfect condition.
Maybe I'm on the wrong continent????

I love the thought of an open air market also carrying that sweet basket! I am with you! I can't wait until our farmer's markets open up. It's not France, but it is still fresh produce and flowers. Gotta love it!

I am with you on the Linen resuseable bags. I purchased some from Murchison-Hume and boy somehow shopping feels a lot more stylish when I have a trolley of linen bags - my husband thinks I am nutters, but it helps with the whole shopping experience! When are you getting your online shopping up and running?

Oh Judy, I can just see MOTH wandering up & down the aisles @ Woolies with his market basket! He protests so loudly when I 'suggest' that he uses a reusable calico bag from the stash in my car. Something about them being too 'girly' & the fact that he likes to argue with the Check-Out chicks about the whole 'recycle bag' issue - says its good sport!

I read your profile and I literally sighed aloud! You are reading my mind right now.
Oh, and I truly wish shopping at Woolworths was as romantic as a fresh food market!

Every Mothers cry!
We are lucky living in such a fresh food state like Tassie where we have abundant open air markets with loads of fresh organic foods, cheeses, wines, bread etc etc. This has become a regular way of shopping for our family...all done with a market basket.
I love yours and it so lovely to hear that these types of markets are popping up everywhere - good!
